Last Chance to Pre-Order Limited Edition Wines!

Most of you have been wise enough to pre-order the fabulous Limited Edition kits. For the few people who have not, or are unfamiliar with this program, please know the deadline is the end of this month. The Limited Edition Series are 16 litre kits that are sourced from the best vineyards in the world. They are the same quality as the magnificent Estates Series wines, but the same price as the 6-week kits. They are a one shot deal and must be pre-ordered. As always, the Limited’s are the perfect way to experience wines that will only be available once. Please email or call us to reserve your batch.

January – South African Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon A lush balanced white with great fruit forward flavour and a rich satisfying finish. The citrus notes of Sauvignon Blanc will make this wine tempting to drink right away. After 3 months the Semillon will rise up and it will improve for at least a year developing deep flavours of melon and honey.

Washington Meritage A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot, this red features deep colour and intense aromatics of dark berry fruit, casis, peppery spice, cedar and smoke. The texture and mouth feel offer silky tannin and a velvety smooth structure. The complexity of this red will require 3 to 6 months to unwind and it will continue improving for several years.

February – California Petite Sirah/Zinfandel This wine comes from Amador County which is sometimes called ‘California’s Piedmont.’ Full bodied with a lingering palate and peppery spice, this is a wine of unprecedented power and length. The bold Petite Sirah compliments the jamminess of the Zinfandel taming the berry flavour with a hint of dark cherry and vanilla. This is a wine that shows best with ageing and should be cellared for maximum enjoyment.

March – German Traminer Spatlese (shpate-lay-zuh) This white comes from the most famous growing region in Germany, the Mosel Valley. Traminer is the parent grape of the more familiar Gewürztraminer and Spatlese is a wine term meaning late harvest. This wine is unmistakable in its heady aromatic intensity with flavours of tropical fruit, lychee and rose petals. A lush wine with intense fruit character that is delicious right away, but offers deeper floral notes after six months to a year.

April – Spanish Matador Trio Red A blend of Tempranillo offering delicate aroma and deep blue/black berries, Cabernet Sauvignon or high tannin and intense colour, and Monastrell for intensity, earthiness and ripe red fruit. This wine is lush, tannic and complex with rich black fruit, black cherry and raspberry flavours. It can be enjoyed young, but many of the fruit notes will take six months to show well.

Remembrance Day

Two nuns were shopping at a cold beer and wine store. One said to the other, ” Wouldn’t a cool beer taste wonderful?”
“Indeed it would, “the second nun answered, “but it would cause a scene at the check out.”
“I can handle that,” the other Nun replied. She picked up the beer and headed for the front.
The cashier looked surprised to see two Nuns with six beer.
“We use beer for washing out hair,” the Nun said. “We call it Catholic shampoo.”
Without blinking the cashier pulled out a bag of pretzel sticks, placed them in the bag, said with a smile “The curlers are on the house.”
Happy Halloween and all the best for November from Sigrid, Lisa and all the staff at Signature Wines.
